What are the schools like in Feltham?

For anyone buying or renting in Feltham.

Schools are the part of Feltham that surprises people. Every graded school in the borough is good or better. None is rated as needing to improve. The nearest primary is a short walk from most homes. The town's reputation has some catching up to do with its classrooms.

In the London Borough of Hounslow, Ofsted has graded 39 schools and rated all 39 good or outstanding, with 8 of them outstanding. No school in the borough is rated requires improvement or inadequate. Another 25 settings have no published grade yet, which means they have not been graded and implies nothing worse. The figures cover the whole borough and are not limited to Feltham, but a borough where every graded school clears the bar leaves parents fairly little to worry about. In Feltham, the school gates are the place where the town looks better than it does in its own headlines.

The names local parents keep running into are the Reach Academy schools. Reach Academy Feltham and Reach Academy Hanworth Park both appear among the local primaries and secondaries, so a child can start school and finish it on the same site. Springwest Academy is the other local secondary, and Logic Studio School is a smaller alternative. At primary level the choice runs from Feltham Hill Infant and Nursery School to church schools such as St Lawrence Catholic Primary School, with academies like Oriel Academy West London and Cardinal Primary School across the wider area. Hounslow council allocates places under its published admissions rules, so buying a house near one of these schools does not give you a place there, and the council's oversubscription criteria are the document worth reading. A buyer who picks a road because it sounds close to Reach Academy will learn in the spring how the council measures distance.

Distances are short. On the Department for Transport's modelled journey times, which date from 2019, the nearest primary is about an 8-minute walk from a typical Feltham home, and the nearest secondary about 15 minutes on foot or 13 by public transport. Buildings and roads have not moved since 2019, but bus timetables may have, so the public transport time is the one to check. Few Feltham families will spend secondary school arguing about whose turn it is to drive.

Schools are one of Feltham's real strengths, with a borough that has no weak graded school and short walks to the classroom. For a town with a mixed reputation, this is the section where it comes out well.
