What are the schools like in Enfield Highway?

For anyone buying or renting in Enfield Highway.

The schools are the part of Enfield Highway that needs the least defending. Every school with a published inspection grade across the borough is good or better. Primary maths scores are solid. A primary is a short walk from most front doors, and a secondary not much further. The exam results at sixteen are the one place a parent should look a bit harder.

Around here there are 15 mainstream state primaries, and their pupils average a Key Stage 2 maths score of 105. Brimsdown Primary School and Keys Meadow Primary School are among them, both in the part of the borough the Lea Valley pulled into industry long before it pulled in families. The Department for Transport's 2019 modelling puts the nearest primary about 7 minutes' walk away on average. The school run here mostly happens on foot, and the cars double-parked outside the gates are there by choice.

The area has five mainstream state secondaries, and their pupils average 41 on the Attainment 8 measure, which adds up a pupil's best eight results at sixteen. Oasis Academy Enfield and The Lea Valley Academy are both on the list. So is Ark John Keats Academy, which appears among the primaries too, so a child can start and finish school there without ever changing gates. The same 2019 modelling has the nearest secondary about 12 minutes' walk away. Of everything on this page, that exam average is the figure a parent should read most closely.

Across the whole of the Enfield local authority, Ofsted has graded 42 schools, and all 42 are good or better, two of them outstanding. None requires improvement and none is inadequate. Another 37 settings in the borough have no published grade yet, which means only that inspectors have not reported on them, not that anything is wrong. The council allocates places under its own published admissions rules, so living within sight of a named school does not put a child in it, and the boundary that matters gets redrawn every year by whoever else applied. The council publishes how far the last offer reached for each school, and last year's figure for the one you want is the number to look up first. A borough with no school below good has very little to complain about, and the council will mention it at every opportunity.

Schools are one of the real strengths here. The inspection grades are spotless, the walks are short, and the only thing to watch is how the secondaries do in exams.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
