Is Enfield Highway a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Enfield Highway.

Enfield Highway is reasonably safe, though a shade rougher than the rest of Enfield. Crime runs a little above the borough rate. Violence makes up a smaller share of it than the national picture. Anti-social behaviour and car crime make up a bigger one. Getting anyone charged afterwards is harder.

Police.uk recorded 8,664 crimes here between June 2025 and May 2026, a published rate of about 121 for every 1,000 residents. That puts the area roughly 8% above the average for the London Borough of Enfield over the same year. The figure covers a full twelve months, so one bad weekend can't account for it.

The borough's own rate across that year was about 113 per 1,000, against this area's 121. That is a gap, but it is a gap of a few crimes per thousand people, and it is measured against a borough that is itself in north London.

The area is dense, with about 10,500 people to the square kilometre on average. At the 2021 Census about 5% of residents were unemployed and about 17% of households were counted as overcrowded. That gives a sense of the kind of neighbourhood the crime figure comes from: busy and built up, with plenty of people in a small space. None of those numbers explains the crime rate on its own, and none of them should be read as the reason for it.

The mix is where the area differs from the national picture. Violence and sexual offences, a broad legal category that includes common assault with no injury, make up about 28% of crime here against about 35% nationally, so the share of the most serious-sounding category is lower than average. Anti-social behaviour is about 25% of reports, against 16% nationally. Vehicle crime is about 9% against 5%, and burglary about 5% against 4%. Other theft matches the national share at about 7%, and criminal damage and arson is lower at about 5% against 7%. In an area that grew up along the Hertford Road, it fits that cars get more than their share of the trouble. The police.uk street map shows a year of reports for the exact road you are looking at, and it is worth a look.

As for what happens next, the Metropolitan Police Service charges a suspect in about 10% of cases, against about 12% nationally, over the year to May 2026. That places it 33rd of the 42 forces on that measure, and about 53% of its cases close with no suspect identified. The charge rate covers the whole of London, says nothing about this particular neighbourhood, and measures something separate from how often crime happens here.

Safety here is middling: slightly above the borough rate, heavier on nuisance and cars than on violence, and an ordinary part of north London that a buyer with sensible expectations can live in without much worry.
