What are the schools like in Cliffe Woods?

For anyone buying or renting in Cliffe Woods.

Good, and the primary is close enough to walk to. Across Medway, more than nine in ten graded schools are good or better. The village has its own primary school. Secondary means a bus or a lift, every day, for five years. Primary is sorted on foot, and secondary is where the car starts earning its keep.

Around here, five mainstream state primaries sat the Key Stage 2 tests, and their average maths score was about 104. Cliffe Woods Primary School is the one with the village's name on it, and the Department for Transport's 2019 modelling puts the nearest primary about a 12-minute walk away. That's the same distance whichever house you pick in a village this size, which spares parents a lot of estate-agent talk about being "within easy reach". Nearby, St Helen's Church of England Primary School in Cliffe, Higham Primary School and Chattenden Primary School give families a few alternatives within the same stretch of the peninsula.

Ofsted has graded 37 of the 40 rated schools across Medway as good or better, which is more than nine in ten. Those counts cover the whole local authority, not only Cliffe Woods, so read them as the standard of the system your child joins rather than a verdict on the school at the end of the road. At the top, 4 are outstanding. At the bottom, 1 requires improvement and 2 are inadequate. With odds like that, a parent has to work fairly hard to end up somewhere poor, though the anxious ones will still spend every evening comparing inspection reports.

Secondary is where geography takes over. The 2019 modelling puts the nearest secondary about 27 minutes away by public transport, 15 by car, or about 72 minutes on foot. Nobody's twelve-year-old is walking that. Leigh Academy Hundred of Hoo is the named secondary on the peninsula, and Gad's Hill School and City of Rochester School also sit within reach for families weighing other options.

None of these names comes with a guaranteed place. Medway allocates school places under its own admissions rules, and living near a school doesn't mean your child gets in. Buyers who pay for a house because it's close to a particular school, then treat the allocation letter as a formality, are the ones who have a very long spring. Check the admissions criteria and the recent allocations for each school directly with the council before the purchase price starts depending on it.

Schools are one of Cliffe Woods' real strengths: a walkable village primary, a borough where nearly every graded school clears the good bar, and the only real cost is the drive once secondary starts.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
