Is Cliffe Woods a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Cliffe Woods.

Yes, and by a distance. Crime runs at a fraction of the Medway rate. Hardly anyone is out of work. Almost nobody is crammed in. The neighbourhood watch sticker in the window is mostly there for decoration.

Police figures for the year from June 2025 to May 2026 put Cliffe Woods' published crime rate at about 30 per 1,000 residents. That sits roughly 72% below the Medway average. In raw terms, 86 crimes were recorded in the area over those twelve months. For a whole village over a whole year, that's the kind of total that makes the local social media group work hard for its outrage.

To put the comparison in plain numbers: Medway as a whole runs at about 108 crimes per 1,000 residents, and Cliffe Woods at about 30. Same council, same police force, different planet. Buyers moving out from the towns tend to notice the difference within a month, usually when they realise they've stopped checking the car is locked twice.

As for what the place is like: the built-up area of the village has about 3,080 people per square kilometre, measured across the houses themselves rather than the fields around them. Unemployment is about 2%, and about 2% of households are overcrowded. It's a settled place of full-time jobs and spare bedrooms. None of that proves anything about crime on its own, but it tells you what kind of neighbourhood produces these numbers.

If something does happen, the figures that matter belong to the whole force, not the village. Kent Police charges a suspect in about 16% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which puts it 6th of 42 forces in England and Wales over the year from June 2025 to May 2026. That's a respectable showing, but it isn't a measure of how safe Cliffe Woods is. It answers a different question. The honest answer to "will they catch them" is that about 36% of Kent Police cases over the same period closed with no suspect identified. Keep that in mind if you're relying on a doorbell camera to do the police's job for them.

Safety is Cliffe Woods' real strength: the crime rate is so far below Medway's that the most dangerous thing on an average evening is the drive home through Strood.
