Chivenor and Wrafton
Chivenor and Wrafton is what happens when the Royal Marines get first refusal on the view and everyone else negotiates around them. The estuary does the heavy work here, wide and tidal and genuinely lovely at the right hour, and then a helicopter goes over and reminds you what the flat land was actually flattened for. It is a place where people talk about the water constantly, in two entirely different tones depending on whether they mean the view or the tide. Buy here for the light and the marsh air, and accept that the marsh is not a metaphor.
