What are the schools like in Chiddingfold?

For anyone buying or renting in Chiddingfold.

Schools are the easy part of moving to Chiddingfold. The local primary gets results above the expected standard. Nine in ten Surrey schools are rated good or better. Secondary school means a drive. Getting the house is the hard part.

There's one mainstream state primary in the area with published results, and its average key stage 2 maths score was 105, comfortably above the expected standard. The nearest primary is about 25 minutes' walk, 9 minutes by car or around 15 minutes by public transport. That makes the walk to school realistic for families in the village and a car job for anyone out in the lanes. St Mary's Church of England Primary School and Witley CofE Controlled Infant School are among the primaries nearby. Parents looking a little further afield will come across The Chandler CofE Aided Junior School and Milford School. The church-school names are there because the admissions criteria are, and parents who find that out the Sunday before applications close aren't fooling anyone.

Ofsted has graded 147 of the 159 inspected settings across Surrey good or outstanding. That's more than nine in ten, and 30 of them are outstanding. At the other end, seven require improvement and five are inadequate. These are county-wide figures, not a Chiddingfold count, but they're the background any family moving here will be choosing from. A few settings haven't been graded yet and are left out of that total. That's not a mark against them. It just means there's no published grade to count.

Secondary school is where the commute starts. The nearest one is about 16 minutes by car and around 31 by public transport, and the Department for Transport's modelled walk is an hour and a half, which nobody does. Rodborough is the secondary name that comes up nearby. King Edward's School Witley and Aldro also appear in the wider mix, and families who can afford the lifestyle here tend to know those names already.

Being near a school doesn't guarantee a place. Admissions are decided by each school's published criteria, and for church schools that can include things that have nothing to do with where you live. Check the current admissions rules for the exact address before relying on any school on this page. Estate agents who describe a house as "in catchment" aren't the people who allocate the places.

The schools are one of Chiddingfold's real strengths: strong primary results close to home, and a county where good or outstanding schools are the norm. Budget for a car for the secondary run.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
