Is Brimscombe and Thrupp a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Brimscombe and Thrupp.

Brimscombe and Thrupp is safer than the district around it, and by a clear margin. Crime here is lower than in the Stroud area as a whole. The village has little going on after dark that produces much crime. Most of what does get reported is low-level.

The police recorded 409 crimes in Brimscombe and Thrupp in the year from June 2025 to May 2026. The published rate for the village is about 40 crimes per 1,000 residents, roughly 14% below the local average. That rate is calculated on the police's own population base, so dividing the count by the village's head count won't give the same figure.

Across Stroud district the published rate is about 46 per 1,000, against about 40 here. The gap is real but modest, and Stroud district is itself mostly market towns and farmland, so the village beats a reasonably calm average.

The population averages about 883 people per square kilometre across the area's neighbourhoods. Unemployment was about 2% at the 2021 census, and about 2% of households were overcrowded. Those numbers describe a settled valley where most people own their home and few are squeezed for space. A neighbourhood like that is calm to live in and has not much going on.

Violence and sexual offences make up about 30% of recorded crime here, against about 35% nationally. That category covers everything from common assault without injury upwards, and it is the biggest in almost every place in England and Wales. Anti-social behaviour is about 26% here, against about 16% nationally, and vehicle crime about 10% against 5%. Public order is about 8% against 7%, other theft about 7% against 7%, and criminal damage and arson about 6% against 7%. With only 409 crimes in the year, a few extra reports move any of those shares by several points, so the mix can look different next year. The police's street-level crime map lets a buyer see whether incidents cluster near a particular car park or road before deciding on a house beside it.

After a crime is reported, Gloucestershire Constabulary charges someone in about 9% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which puts it 39th of 42 forces. About 33% of its cases close with no suspect identified. Those are figures for the whole force across the county, so they show what happens after a crime has been committed and say nothing about how many crimes happen here. The force is near the bottom of the table for charging people, and a village with this little crime gives it few cases to be judged on in the first place.

Safety is one of the village's strengths. Crime is lower than in the surrounding district, and what does happen is mostly the low-level kind found in every village.
