Is Bowerhill a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Bowerhill.

Bowerhill is about as safe as the rest of Wiltshire. Its crime rate is a touch under the county's. Unemployment is low. Hardly anyone lives in an overcrowded home. It's an ordinary Wiltshire suburb, and ordinary is what you want from a crime map.

Police recorded 414 crimes in Bowerhill in the year from June 2025 to May 2026, a published rate of about 60 per 1,000 residents. That puts it roughly 4% below the Wiltshire average. Four percent isn't much of a gap, and nobody should buy a house because of it or turn one down because of it.

In numbers, Bowerhill runs at about 60 crimes per 1,000 residents and Wiltshire as a whole at about 62. Those two figures are close enough to call it the same, whatever a listing or a crime-map app might try to make of it.

The neighbourhood looks the way that figure suggests. The average statistical area here has about 3,600 people per square kilometre, which feels like a suburb, not a city. About 2% of residents are unemployed, and about 2% of households are overcrowded. Neither figure explains crime, and neither suggests trouble. They describe a settled place where people have jobs and room at home.

The mix needs care, because the totals are small enough that a handful of incidents moves a share by several points. Violence and sexual offences account for about 47% of recorded crime here, against about 35% across England and Wales. That category is broad by law and includes common assault where nobody was hurt, and it's the biggest category almost everywhere. Anti-social behaviour makes up about 18%, against 16% nationally. Criminal damage and arson account for about 9% against 7%, drugs about 6% against 4%, and public order about 7%, the same as nationally. Vehicle crime is about 3% against 5% nationally, which is lower than you'd guess for a place where most people drive. At these volumes the mix is a snapshot, not a settled fact about Bowerhill, and a headline writer could make it sound worse than it is.

After a crime is reported, the figures that matter belong to the force, not to Bowerhill. Wiltshire Police charges a suspect in about 10% of cases, against about 12% nationally. That puts it 32nd of 42 forces on this measure over the year from June 2025 to May 2026. About 34% of its cases are closed without anyone being identified. That's the answer to "will they catch them", and it's a separate question from how likely a crime is here in the first place.

Bowerhill sits in the middle on safety: an average Wiltshire suburb, with nothing that should put a buyer off and nothing to put in a sales brochure either.
