Is Acton, London a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Acton, London.

Acton is about as safe as the rest of Ealing, and slightly worse. The crime rate runs a little above the borough's. A quarter of reports are anti-social behaviour. Violence makes up a smaller share than it does nationally. The trouble here is mostly people being a nuisance to each other, and violence is a smaller part of the picture than the area's reputation suggests.

The Metropolitan Police recorded 10,101 crimes in Acton in the year from June 2025 to May 2026, and the published rate for the area is about 129 per 1,000 residents. That is roughly 8% above the average for the Ealing local authority area. It is a gap you can measure, though not a large one.

Ealing's own rate across the same year was about 120 crimes per 1,000 residents, against Acton's 129. A few hundred incidents either way would close that gap, so Acton is better read as slightly above the borough than as a crime spot within it.

Those numbers come from a crowded place. Acton averages about 16,400 people per square kilometre, about 12% of households are overcrowded, and unemployment stood at about 5% at the 2021 census. None of that explains the crime on its own, but it describes neighbourhoods where a lot of people share pavements, stairwells and bus stops, and where more of what happens gets seen and reported.

The mix is where Acton differs from the national pattern. Violence and sexual offences, a broad legal category that includes common assault without injury, make up about 26% of recorded crime here against about 35% across England and Wales. Anti-social behaviour runs the other way, at about 25% against 16% nationally. Vehicle crime is about 9% against 5%, and other theft about 8% against 7%, close to the national figure. Shoplifting, at about 6% against 8%, and public order, at about 6% against 7%, both come in a little below. About half the households in Acton have no car at all, and the cars that are here get more than their share of attention. Police.uk maps reported crime street by street, so look up the specific road you are buying on, along with the one where you would leave the car.

What happens after a report is a separate question, and the answer comes from the whole force. The Metropolitan Police charges a suspect in about 10% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which puts it 33rd of 42 forces in England and Wales over the year from June 2025 to May 2026. About 53% of its cases are closed with no suspect identified. That figure covers all of London and says nothing about how safe Acton is, only about the odds that anyone answers for a crime if one happens to you.

Acton's safety record is middling for this part of London, with fewer violent crimes than the national mix and more nuisance. It suits people who can live with neighbours who make noise and a car that might get broken into.
