What are the schools like in Yorkletts?

For anyone buying or renting in Yorkletts.

The schools are good, but none of them are in Yorkletts. Across the county, nine in ten graded schools are rated good or better. The nearest primary is a short drive away. The secondary run takes longer. Choosing Yorkletts for schooling means choosing Kent's schools, and a car to reach them.

Ofsted has graded 245 schools and settings across Kent, and 221 of them are good or better. That's roughly nine in every ten. Of the rest, 38 are outstanding, 21 require improvement and three are inadequate. These counts cover the whole local authority, from one end of the county to the other, so they describe the system Yorkletts belongs to, not a set of schools within walking distance of the village. Another 255 settings have no published grade yet. That tells you nothing about them either way, and the headline figures leave them out.

Getting there is the part the county figures don't show. The Department for Transport's 2019 modelling puts the nearest primary about nine minutes away by car, 14 by public transport and about 20 on foot. The nearest secondary is about 13 minutes by car, 28 by public transport and roughly 56 on foot. With five buses a day at each stop, the school run is a driving job. Parents here get to know the traffic around the school gates better than they know their own lane.

The names nearby reflect the area's split loyalties between Whitstable and the villages to the west. Graveney Primary School and Hernhill Church of England Primary School serve the smaller settlements. Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed Church of England Junior School and Joy Lane Primary Foundation School sit on the Whitstable side. For older children, The Whitstable School is the obvious local secondary, and Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School is the name that selective-school hopefuls start saying in hushed tones well before their child is old enough to care.

None of that guarantees a place. Admissions run on the council's rules, not on which school's name appears in an estate agent's particulars, and living near a school is not the same as being inside its allocation. Check the admissions criteria for the specific school against the specific address before exchanging contracts, not after the offer letter arrives. The rules are published. Buyers who read them tend to be happier in the spring when places are handed out.

On schools, Yorkletts belongs to a county system that is overwhelmingly good. The only real price is the drive.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
