The schools are the best thing about Worcester Park. Across the borough, only one graded school falls short of good. Nine are outstanding. The local primaries post strong maths results. Finding a good school here is easy, and the work goes into getting a place at one.
Five mainstream state primaries in the area have published results at the end of primary school, and their average maths score is 110. Cheam Common Infants' Academy and Cheam Common Junior Academy are at the top of the high street, in pre-war buildings where builders working on an extension to the junior school found air raid shelters underground. Cuddington Community Primary covers the south, near the Stoneleigh border. Green Lane Primary and Nursery is the newcomer, opened in 2018, which makes it the only school in Worcester Park whose newest building isn't older than most of the parents.
Sutton has the full set of Ofsted grades. Of the 28 settings across the borough with a published grade, 27 are good or better, which leaves one exception. Nine are outstanding, one requires improvement and none is inadequate. Another 25 have no published grade yet, which means they haven't been graded, not that they did badly. In most boroughs, a parent is looking for the one good school. In Sutton, the one to avoid has been named for you.
Good schools are only useful if a child gets in. Sutton Council allocates places using its published admissions rules, so living close to a school you like doesn't secure a place, however short the walk to the gate. Find the council's figures for the last child admitted to your shortlisted school, then compare that distance with the front door you're thinking of buying. Worcester Park's catchment hopes mostly fall in the gap between those two measurements.
Linden Bridge School is the special school on Grafton Road, on the Epsom and Ewell side, and it takes pupils from 4 to 19. For a family who needs it, having one in the area changes what the move is worth. In most suburbs, provision like that is a long drive away.
Schools are one of Worcester Park's real strengths, and they're consistent across the board. Getting a place is the harder part.
