Is Wallington, London a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Wallington, London.

Wallington is about as safe as the rest of Sutton, with a little extra interest in parked cars. Crime runs a touch above the borough average. Violence makes up a smaller share than it does nationally. Vehicle crime makes up a bigger one. Ordinary suburb, ordinary numbers, with the cars drawing the attention.

The Metropolitan Police recorded crime in Wallington at a rate of about 81 per 1,000 residents in the year from June 2025 to May 2026, roughly 3% above the average for the London Borough of Sutton. Across those twelve months that came to 4,098 recorded crimes. Both are published figures for that year, and a single year can wobble.

Set side by side, the borough-wide rate for Sutton was about 79 per 1,000 over the same twelve months against Wallington's 81. Two crimes per thousand residents is the whole gap, the kind of margin that makes an "above average" headline and changes very little about the walk home.

Wallington is a built-up suburb, with an average of about 8,200 people per square kilometre across its neighbourhoods. Unemployment in the 2021 census was about 3%, and about 7% of households were overcrowded. That is a dense, working, mostly uncrowded place, and its crime figures look like it.

The biggest category is violence and sexual offences, at about 31% of recorded crime here against about 35% nationally, a broad legal grouping that includes common assault with no injury, and Wallington's share falls below the national one. Anti-social behaviour is about 19% against 16% nationally, and vehicle crime about 8% against 5%, the clearest difference from the national pattern. Shoplifting is about 8%, level with the national 8%, public order about 6% against 7%, and other theft about 6% against 7%. Check the police's online street-level map for the road you are looking at, since vehicle crime tends to cluster where cars are parked on the street overnight. The only recorded attack on the Wallington war memorial came from moss, in 2005, and English Heritage paid for the repairs.

What happens next is a force-wide question. The Metropolitan Police charged a suspect in about 10% of cases in the year to May 2026, against about 12% nationally, which places it 33rd of 42 forces. In about 53% of its cases nobody was identified at all. Those are figures for the whole of London's police force, with no Wallington-specific version, and they say how often a report ends in a charge; they say nothing about how likely a crime is in the first place. A stolen catalytic converter is more likely to end up as a crime reference number than a court date.

Wallington is middling on safety: an everyday Sutton suburb with everyday crime, where the thing most worth locking up is the car.
