Is Tregony a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Tregony.

Yes, to the point of being uneventful about it. Recorded crime runs at around half the county rate. Almost nobody here is out of work. The village is compact enough that an unfamiliar car gets noticed before it reaches the end of the street. Of everything Tregony has to answer for, safety is not on the list.

Police recorded 66 crimes in this area over the year to May 2026, a published rate of about 36 per 1,000 residents. That figure sits roughly 52% below the Cornwall average, which is not a rounding difference or a quiet year. It is the kind of gap that shows up in how people behave rather than how they feel: doors on latches, bikes left against walls, deliveries left in porches for the afternoon.

The comparison is worth seeing in full rather than as a percentage. Cornwall as a whole records about 74 crimes per 1,000 people. Tregony records about 36. Both numbers come from the same published source over the same period, so the gap is real rather than an artefact of one place counting differently from another.

The texture underneath those numbers is what you would find in a small Cornish village that never industrialised. Population density averages about 898 people per square kilometre across the built-up area, which sounds urban until you remember this is a tight grid of houses surrounded by farmland rather than a sprawl. Unemployment runs at about 1%, and overcrowded households at about 2%. None of those figures causes the crime rate, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling something. They do describe a settled, low-churn place where most households have been in position long enough to know which car belongs to whom.

What happens after a report is a separate question, and it is answered force-wide rather than village by village. Devon and Cornwall Police charged or summonsed a suspect in about 8% of recorded crimes over the year to May 2026, against roughly 12% nationally, which places the force last of the 42 in England and Wales on that measure. About 26% of cases closed with no suspect identified at all. That is not a statement about Tregony's safety and should never be read as one, but it is the honest answer to the question people mean when they ask whether anything gets done. The odds of needing the police here are low. The odds of a resolution if you do are lower than the national picture.

Safety is where this village clears the bar by a distance rather than scraping over it. Half the county's crime rate, in a place small enough that anything unusual gets talked about by lunchtime, is about as reassuring as English residential data gets.
