Is Stoke Poges a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Stoke Poges.

Stoke Poges is about as safe as the rest of Buckinghamshire, with a slight lean the wrong way. Crime runs a little above the county average. Violence makes up much the same share as it does anywhere. Cars are the target that stands out. This is an ordinary safety record for a village that does not look ordinary in any other respect.

Thames Valley Police recorded 608 crimes in the Stoke Poges area in the year from June 2025 to May 2026. The published rate over that period was about 70 crimes per 1,000 people, roughly 7% above the Buckinghamshire average. The figure covers a full twelve months, so one busy weekend cannot swing it much in either direction.

Set side by side, the gap is modest. Buckinghamshire as a whole runs at about 65 crimes per 1,000 people, against about 70 here. Five crimes per thousand is the difference between a village that matches its county and one that sits just above it, and Stoke Poges is the second.

The neighbourhood behind those numbers is settled and comfortable. The area averages about 1,630 people per square kilometre, unemployment is about 3%, and only about 2% of households are overcrowded. Nothing in that list describes a place under strain, which makes the slightly raised rate more about what passes through than about who lives here.

The mix is where the detail sits. Violence and sexual offences, a broad legal grouping that includes common assault without injury, made up about 39% of recorded crime, close to the national share of about 35%. Vehicle crime is the real outlier, at about 12% against about 5% nationally. Criminal damage and arson, public order offences and other theft each ran at about 9%, a couple of points above their national shares of about 7%. Anti-social behaviour went the other way, at about 9% against about 16% across England and Wales. With six in ten households running two or more cars, a car thief working Stoke Poges has a very short walk between opportunities.

What happens after a report is a force-wide question with a less flattering answer. Thames Valley Police charges a suspect in about 9% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which places it 37th of 42 forces. About 37% of its cases close with nobody identified at all. Those are figures for the whole Thames Valley force, from Milton Keynes to the Berkshire border, and they say nothing about how safe Stoke Poges is; they answer the separate question of whether anyone gets caught.

Stoke Poges is middling for safety: a touch above its county on crime, well below the country on anti-social behaviour, and with a clear habit of losing things from driveways. Lock the car and the rest is fairly ordinary.
