For anyone buying or renting in Nailsworth.

At the 2021 Census, the source for every population figure on this page, about 73% of Nailsworth's households owned their home. About 15% rented privately and about 12% rented from a council or housing association. Social renting comes close to private renting here, so the rented quarter of the town is far from all landlord stock.

The typical resident is 50, and about 20% of residents are aged 25 to 44. Half the town is past fifty, and the other half is getting there at the usual speed.

Average household income was about £59,700 a year before tax in the financial year to March 2023, a figure the Office for National Statistics models across the two neighbourhoods covering the town. After tax, the same households came out at about £44,000. That leaves room for a comfortable life, especially for the many owners who bought years ago.

The town holds about 7,840 people in 3,484 households. About 8% of households are lone parents with children.

About 32% of households are one person living alone, and about 17% are a pensioner living alone, a group that is counted inside the one-person share. Couples with children make up about 17%. At about the same size as the pensioner-alone group, the households with children are matched almost exactly by the households whose children have long since left.

About 45% of residents hold a degree-level qualification, about 14% have no qualifications and about 1% are full-time students. The students are mostly home for the holidays, visiting their parents.

The people of Nailsworth are well off, well qualified and staying put, and the place is better than most for anyone happy to join an older, home-owning town.
