Is Marlow Bottom a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Marlow Bottom.

Yes, Marlow Bottom is very safe, and by a wide margin. Crime runs well under half the county rate. Almost nobody is out of work. Almost nobody is short of a bedroom. Trouble needs a reason to drive up this valley, and the valley gives it very few.

Thames Valley Police recorded crime in Marlow Bottom at about 26 per 1,000 people in the twelve months to May 2026, roughly 60% below the Buckinghamshire average. That came to 132 recorded crimes across the year. For a whole village strung along one valley road, that is a short list.

Across Buckinghamshire as a whole, the rate over the same twelve months was about 65 per 1,000. Put the two side by side and the county's figure is plainly being made somewhere else, in places Marlow Bottom residents mostly drive through on the way to somewhere nicer.

The neighbourhoods here average about 2,200 people per square kilometre, unemployment is about 2% and about 1% of households are overcrowded. Those figures describe the kind of place this is, a valley of large owner-occupied houses with very little pressure on space or jobs, and they explain nothing about any particular crime. A low unemployment figure has never stopped a bike going missing from a drive.

By category, violence and sexual offences made up about 49% of recorded crime here, against about 35% across England and Wales. That sounds worse than it is: the category is a broad statutory grouping that includes common assault without injury, and it is the largest category almost everywhere. Other theft and criminal damage each made up about 10%, against about 7% nationally for both, and vehicle crime about 6% against 5%. Anti-social behaviour was about 8%, half the national share of about 16%, and public order about 5% against 7%. With only 132 crimes in the year, a handful of incidents moves any of these shares by several points, so this mix describes one year's small total and could look different the next.

Thames Valley Police charges a suspect in about 9% of cases across its whole area, against about 12% nationally, and about 37% of its cases close with no suspect identified. Those are force-wide figures covering a large territory, and they answer a different question from how often crime happens here. Marlow Bottom's low rate owes nothing to the clear-up figures.

Safety is one of Marlow Bottom's real strengths, with a gap to the county average wide enough to survive a bad year. For most households here, crime is not something they need to plan around.
