Knebworth's primary schools are one of the strongest reasons families move here. Three state primaries serve the area. One carries the village's name. Across the county, nearly nine in ten graded schools are good or better. The harder part is getting a place.
There are 3 mainstream state primaries in the area around Knebworth, and their pupils averaged a Key Stage 2 maths score of about 107. Knebworth Primary and Nursery School is the one in the village itself. St Michael's Woolmer Green Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School covers the village just to the south, and All Saints Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School is in Datchworth. The Department for Transport's 2019 modelling put the nearest primary about 11 minutes' walk from the typical home, close enough for the school run to be a stroll. Even so, the car still comes out at a little after half eight in plenty of driveways.
Ofsted's grades for Hertfordshire as a whole put 203 of the county's 227 graded schools and settings at good or better, which is close to nine in ten. Of those, 40 are rated outstanding, while 21 are graded requires improvement and 3 inadequate. Another 226 settings across the county have no published grade yet and do not count either way. A county-wide record covers a lot of ground beyond these three primaries, and the reassurance it gives comes from the county's reputation more than from any one school here.
Knebworth Primary and Nursery School is the one most buyers mentally sign their children up for the moment they see the village sign. Hertfordshire County Council allocates places under its published admissions rules, so living within sight of the playground does not by itself secure a place, and those rules decide who gets in when a year group is oversubscribed. For any house on a shortlist, read the council's admissions criteria for each of the three schools and its record of how far places reached in recent years. The parents who skip that step tend to learn the oversubscription criteria by heart in the spring, from the letter.
The schools are a real strength in Knebworth. Primary places are close to home, the county's inspection record is strong, and the only real effort a family has to make is reading the admissions rules carefully.
