Is Kings Langley a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Kings Langley.

Yes, Kings Langley is a safe area, with crime about a third below the rest of its borough. Unemployment is close to zero. Overcrowding is rare. Most of Dacorum's crime is recorded somewhere else.

Hertfordshire Constabulary's published rate for the area was about 58 crimes per 1,000 residents in the year to May 2026, roughly 36% below the Dacorum average. That came from 305 recorded crimes over those twelve months. The most notorious killing linked to Kings Langley is Piers Gaveston's, and he was executed in Warwickshire in 1312 and only brought here to be buried.

The borough figure for the same year was about 90 crimes per 1,000 residents, compared with about 58 here. Hemel Hempstead is the large town in Dacorum and produces most of the borough's total. The village sees a lower rate, about two-thirds of the borough's, despite sitting on the road into it.

Kings Langley is a fairly dense village by country standards, with about 2,230 people per square kilometre on average across its neighbourhoods. Unemployment is about 2% and overcrowded homes are about 2%. That describes the neighbourhood rather than explaining its crime: people are in work, households have room, and homes are packed fairly close along the valley without being crowded.

The crime mix needs reading carefully. Violence and sexual offences made up about 42% of recorded crime here, against about 35% across England and Wales. That category covers a wide legal range, including common assault without injury, and it is the largest category almost everywhere. Anti-social behaviour was about 25% here against 16% nationally, and burglary about 6% against 4%. Vehicle crime, at about 6% against 5%, and public order, at about 6% against 7%, are close to the national pattern, and other theft is lower at about 5% against 7%. With only 305 crimes in the year, a handful of incidents can move any of those shares by several points, so a different year could show quite a different mix. A small village total like this makes any single category look bigger than it really is.

Once a crime is reported, Hertfordshire Constabulary charges a suspect in about 11% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which puts it 23rd of 42 forces. In about 40% of cases nobody is identified as a suspect at all. Those are figures for the whole force, set by its own priorities and workload, and they say nothing about how safe the village is. They answer a different question: what happens after something goes wrong. The force's answer is that it usually doesn't charge anyone.

Safety is one of Kings Langley's real strengths. Most of what pushes Dacorum's numbers up happens further up the valley.
