The schools around Greenlands are good, and none of them is in Greenlands. More than eight in ten county schools are graded good or better. About one in five holds the top grade. The only school on the site teaches business to adults. Every child here has a car journey to school.
Ofsted has given 80 of Buckinghamshire's 94 graded settings a rating of good or outstanding, more than eight in ten. Of those, 19 are outstanding. At the other end, 11 require improvement and 3 are rated inadequate. These counts cover the whole local authority, not this stretch of the Thames, and settings without a published overall grade are left out rather than counted against anyone. It is a strong county record. It does not guarantee that the nearest school is one of the 80.
Distance matters more than any grade here. The Department for Transport's 2019 modelling puts the nearest primary school about 10 minutes away by car, 29 by public transport and 35 on foot. The nearest secondary is 17 minutes by car, 55 by public transport and 99 on foot. A child walking to secondary school is on a trek that would impress a hiking club, so for most families the school run means driving. The public transport times date from 2019 and will have aged as services changed, so check the current timetable before relying on the bus.
The county line runs through the options too. Henley-on-Thames sits in Oxfordshire, so the schools that feel closest on a map, such as Badgemore Primary School and Valley Road School in town, or Gillotts School and The Henley College for older students, answer to a different council from the one collecting your council tax. The Buckinghamshire Ofsted counts above do not describe them. On the Buckinghamshire side, Frieth Church of England Combined School is among the nearby village primaries. The area also has private options, including Shiplake College and St Mary's Preparatory, which admit on fees and entrance procedures rather than home address.
None of that guarantees a place. Admissions go by each school's own rules, usually distance, siblings and faith criteria where they apply, and the county boundary adds a layer that buyers tend to discover late. A school name in an estate agent's particulars does not come with an offer letter. The families who plan well ring the admissions team before they make an offer on a house. The ones who don't find out in spring what "nearby" means on the application form.
Schooling is one of Greenlands' real strengths, provided you plan for the driving and check which council's admissions rules apply to your address.
