Brockworth is lived in by working families in their thirties and forties, most of them buying their home. About two in three own. The typical resident is in their mid-thirties. Couples with children and lone parents together make up a good share of the households. Students barely register. It is a village of mortgages, school runs and people who leave for work at the same time every morning.
The 2021 census counted 13,186 residents in 5,350 households, and every population figure on this page comes from that census. About 65% of households own their home, about 14% rent privately and about 18% rent from a council or housing association. Private renting is small enough that anyone hoping to try the village before buying will find the choice thin at any given moment.
The median resident is 36, and about 33% of people are aged 25 to 44. Brockworth is young for a place with the Cotswolds at the end of the road, because the houses were built for families and families still buy them.
The Office for National Statistics models typical household income at about £59,000 a year before tax, for the financial year to March 2023, averaged across the three wider statistical areas the village falls into. Split across two earners and a couple of children, that is enough for a semi and a family car, and not enough to stop anyone checking the price of a holiday twice.
Families set the tone. About 23% of households are couples with dependent children and about 13% are lone parents. About 24% of households are one person living alone, and within that, about 9% of all households are a single pensioner. The playground and the bungalow are both part of the picture, but the playground is louder.
About 34% of adults hold a degree or equivalent, about 13% have no formal qualifications and about 2% of residents are full-time students. That is a broad middle, with teachers, engineers and tradespeople likely living on the same estate road, and no university anywhere in the mix to tilt it. The best-known person born here is Simon Pegg, and no one in the census looks likely to take the title from him soon.
Brockworth's population is solidly ordinary in the best sense: young families, steady incomes and a broad spread of jobs and qualifications. Buyers who want neighbours at the same stage of life will find them here; buyers looking for a retirement village or a student scene will not.
