What are the schools like in Brockham?

For anyone buying or renting in Brockham.

The schools are the best value in Brockham, mainly because you don't pay for them. More than nine in ten Surrey schools are rated good or better. The local primaries score above the expected standard. The one secondary in the area gets strong results. The house costs a fortune, and the education comes with it for free.

There are 3 state primary schools in the area, with an average Key Stage 2 maths score of about 103, above the expected standard. The village's own primary is now North Downs Primary School, formed in 2010 when the village school merged with an infant school in nearby Betchworth. The school is still close, but it's no longer in Brockham. Other primaries around here include Reigate Priory Community Junior School and St Martin's CofE Primary School. Modelled 2019 journey times put the nearest primary about nine minutes away by car, 16 by public transport or 28 on foot.

There's only one state secondary in the area, and its pupil-weighted Attainment 8 score is about 57, a strong result for a state school. The secondaries within reach of these postcodes include The Ashcombe School, Reigate School and St Andrew's Catholic School. The nearest secondary is about 13 minutes away by car, 25 by public transport and nearly an hour on foot, so most teenagers here will be driven to school. For families who prefer to pay fees, Reigate Grammar School and RGS Surrey Hills are among the independent schools nearby.

Ofsted's figures cover all of Surrey, not only this corner of it. Of the 159 settings with a published grade, 147 are rated good or outstanding, which is almost all of them. Thirty are outstanding. Seven require improvement and 5 are inadequate, so choosing a school still takes some checking. Another 194 settings haven't been graded yet, which doesn't mean they're poor.

None of this guarantees a place. Being close to a well-regarded school doesn't mean your child will get into it. Admissions are set by each school's own criteria and the council's allocation rules, and neither cares how much you paid for the house. Check the admission arrangements for the specific school before you buy.

Schools are Brockham's strongest point, and one of the few things here that's cheap. For a family that can afford the house, the education is the part that pays off.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
