Is Bloxham a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Bloxham.

Bloxham is a safe place to live, and its crime rate is well below the rest of its district. Recorded crime runs at a bit over half the Cherwell rate. Unemployment is close to zero. Overcrowding barely registers. Most nights the main disturbance is a pheasant in the road.

Thames Valley Police recorded 465 crimes across Bloxham and the surrounding villages in the twelve months from June 2025 to May 2026. The published rate for the area is about 42 crimes per 1,000 residents, roughly 45% below the Cherwell average. That covers a full year, so it rests on more than one good summer.

Cherwell as a whole runs at about 76 crimes per 1,000 residents over the same period, against about 42 here. Whatever is pushing the district's number up is happening somewhere with more pavement and later closing times.

The neighbourhoods behind those numbers average about 1,750 people per square kilometre, a figure the denser village core pulls up more than the farmland does. Unemployment is about 2% and about 1% of households are overcrowded. These are owner-occupied streets with jobs to go to and room to move about in the house, and that is the setting the low rate comes from, whatever the reasons for it.

The totals are small enough that a handful of incidents can swing a category by several points, so this mix is a snapshot of one year. Violence and sexual offences made up about 47% of recorded crime here against about 35% nationally, in a broad legal category that includes common assault with no injury. Anti-social behaviour was about 10%, against 16% nationally. Other theft was about 9% against 7%, and burglary about 7% against 4%. Criminal damage and arson, at about 7%, and public order, also about 7%, were almost exactly the national shares. The burglary share is the one a buyer will notice, and on a base this small a few break-ins at outlying houses are enough to produce it. The police.uk street map for the exact postcode will show whether any of those break-ins were near the house you are looking at.

Charging is another matter, and it is decided at force level. Thames Valley Police charges a suspect in about 9% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which puts it 37th of 42 forces in the year to May 2026. About 37% of its cases closed with no suspect identified. That describes what happens after a crime anywhere in the force area, and it says nothing about how often crime happens in Bloxham itself. Low crime and a slow force can go together, and here they do.

Safety is one of Bloxham's real strengths: crime is a little over half the district rate, and the main thing to keep an eye on is how the force handles the cases that do happen.
