What are the schools like in Redbridge?

For anyone buying or renting in Redbridge.

Redbridge has excellent schools, and the borough around it is full of them. Almost every graded school is good or better. Not one is rated inadequate. The local primary and secondary both post strong results. Getting a place is the hard part, and the house close enough to try is the expensive part.

Around here there is one mainstream state primary with published results, and its pupils averaged about 107 in Key Stage 2 maths. Redbridge Primary School is the one that shares the neighbourhood's name. The Department for Transport's 2019 modelling put the nearest primary about an eight-minute walk from a typical home, which is short enough that the school run can be done in the clothes you slept in.

The area has one mainstream state secondary with published results, and its pupils averaged an Attainment 8 score of about 52, weighted by pupil numbers. Beal High School is the secondary name local parents will meet first. The same 2019 modelling puts the nearest secondary about a twelve-minute walk away, so the journey barely grows when the child does.

Across the London Borough of Redbridge, Ofsted has graded 35 schools, and 33 of them are good or outstanding, close to all of them. Five are outstanding, two require improvement and none is inadequate. Another 29 settings have no published grade yet, which tells a parent nothing either way. In a borough where good is the normal result, a "good" banner on the school railings is the minimum and parents read it that way.

The whole local school picture runs through the council. Redbridge allocates places by its own published admissions rules, so a house round the corner from a named school earns an application and no promise of a place, and the distance that got the last child in moves from year to year. Ask the council for the last few years of allocation distances for the school you want, then measure the house against them. Beehive Preparatory School is also on the local list for families looking beyond the state sector. Plenty of four-bedroom houses here were bought for the third bedroom and the nearest school gate, and the fourth bedroom came free.

Schools are where Redbridge is at its best. Parents get strong results, short walks and a borough where a weak school is the rare exception, and the only real fight is for the place.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
