Is Hove a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Hove.

The safe half of the city. Recorded crime lands at about seventy-nine per thousand residents over twelve months. The combined Brighton and Hove local-authority figure runs at about a hundred and twenty-five per thousand. That puts Hove roughly a third below its shared-city average. Not one quiet street. A district that consistently ends up on the calmer side of the tally.

Look under the headline. The district recorded roughly six-and-a-half thousand reported incidents across a twelve-month window ending in March. The published rate lands at about seventy-nine per thousand residents. The equivalent for the combined Brighton and Hove local authority sits at about a hundred and twenty-five per thousand. That gap, roughly a third below the wider city, is genuine and not marginal. Whatever is running the crime numbers for the wider authority, most of it is not running in this postcode. Buyers who wanted Brighton-adjacent without the Brighton-central weekend crossfire made the specific decision to move one train stop west. The people who made that call already knew what the printout said. The published figures do not tell you which streets or which nights, but they do tell you the pattern at the level a buyer actually shops from. The odds that a random resident of the wider city reported a crime this year are meaningfully lower if that resident happens to live in Hove. It is also why the Hove resident who has lived in Brighton before rarely misses it. The safety differential is real, not aspirational. The seafront is the same seafront. The trains run the same trains. What differs is the small-hours cross-purposes that generate most of the wider authority's crime volume, and that is what buyers pay to leave behind.

Five out of five on the safety scorecard. Not because nothing happens, but because when the city as a whole gets counted, Hove keeps ending up on the quieter side of the tally. The people who moved here specifically for that reason got what they paid for. The people who moved here for other reasons and got the safety as a bonus are the ones who quietly tell friends that the market is priced fairly. The number does the arguing for the district.

Check it for your address. These figures describe the wider area, not a single street. For recent crime near a particular address, use the map on police.uk.
