Chislehurst's schools are very good, and the borough around them is better still. The local primaries finish comfortably strong in maths. The secondaries post solid exam results. Almost every graded school in the borough is rated good or better. Choosing a school here is the easy part. Getting a place is harder.
There are three mainstream state primaries in the area, and their pupils averaged about 107 in the Key Stage 2 maths tests, a result most places would put on the noticeboard. Edgebury Primary School and St Nicholas Church of England Primary are among the names on the local list, with Red Hill Primary School close by. The Department for Transport's 2019 modelling put the nearest primary about a ten-minute walk from the average home. That's short enough to walk every morning, provided the household manages to leave on time.
The three mainstream state secondaries in the area averaged an Attainment 8 score of about 52, pupil-weighted across all three. The obvious name is Chislehurst School for Girls, the one that carries the place's name, with Bullers Wood School on the same local list. The 2019 modelling put the nearest secondary about 24 minutes away on foot, or roughly 19 by public transport. Teenagers here learn the bus timetable around Year 7, and some of the routes have changed since that modelling was done.
Across the London Borough of Bromley, Ofsted has graded 40 of 41 inspected settings good or better, close to all of them. Fifteen are rated outstanding, one requires improvement and none is inadequate. A further 48 settings in the borough have no published grade yet, which tells you nothing either way. A borough where the odd one out is a single "requires improvement" has set its standards higher than most.
Bromley council allocates places under its published admissions rules, so buying near a school with a good name doesn't earn a seat in its classrooms, whatever the brochure implies. Each school's admissions criteria and recent allocation pattern are on the council's website, and they are worth reading for the specific house before the survey is booked. "Walking distance to outstanding schools" in a set of particulars describes a walk. It says nothing about who gets in at the end of it.
Schools are one of Chislehurst's real strengths. Parents here spend their energy getting a place, because once one is offered, the school itself is rarely the problem.
